A recently-opened Lincolnshire roundabout will be temporarily closed again after the road surface was found to be below standard. Spalding Road roundabout, between Spalding and Pinchbeck, opened to motorists last year after months of disruption.
However, a Lincolnshire County Council highways boss says the work carried out by contractors “doesn’t meet the stringent requirements and high standard” the council laid out in its design. The road will be re-laid, starting on Monday, June 17 for up to two weeks.
The repairs will be carried out under night-time road closures of the roundabout and the Enterprise Way junction from 8pm to 6am on weekday evenings only. Karen Cassar, assistant director for highways, assured that the cost of the works will be covered by the contractor.

She said: “Since opening the new roundabout last year, our standard inspection process has flagged up the that the top layer of road surfacing doesn’t meet the stringent requirements and high standard we laid out in our design. Because issues like this could lead to the carriageway not lasting as long as it should, the project contractor will be removing and re-laying the surfacing at their own cost as part of our contract with them.
“Although these works will cause some disruption, carrying them out now will save us money and time in the future. In the meantime, I want to thank everyone in advance for bearing with us.”
