Revamped breakfast and prosecco bar opening in Lincoln city centre

The chef of a popular Lincoln coffee shop has acquired the store and will reopen it under new branding. Dorota Szukaj, previous chef at Bar Unico in St Benedict’s Square, is reopening the shop as Crazy Appetite, a new coffee bar serving all-day breakfast and prosecco.

Gio Carchedi, who set up Bar Unico in Lincoln in 2013 before opening a second coffee bar in 2021, will continue running Bar Unico in Horncastle. As well as an extensive breakfast menu, Crazy Appetite will serve a range of hot and cold sandwiches, smoothies, gelato, speciality coffees and cocktails.

Dorota said she’s looking forward to welcoming customers old and new when it opens on Saturday, June 1. She said: “I’ve been working at Bar Unico in Lincoln for six years so I’ve got to know a lot of the customers very well and I hope they will like the new coffee bar just as much.

“I’m also looking forward to welcoming new visitors looking for something different from what’s currently available in the city. Going out for breakfast or brunch is becoming increasingly popular and I’m keen to cater for that market by serving breakfast all day alongside our more traditional lunch menu.

“We’ll also have a children’s menu and very much welcome families.”

Gio said it has been emotional saying goodbye to his regular customers, some of whom have been coming to Bar Unico in Lincoln almost every week for ten years. He said: “I’m sorry to be closing Bar Unico in the city and would like to thank all of my customers and suppliers many of whom have become close friends.

“However, many of them are also regular visitors to Bar Unico in Horncastle and I’m looking forward to focusing all my attention on growing this business. As well as doing more evening events we also want to expand the menu and cater for more private functions.

“We are fortunate to have a beautiful building, formerly an old schoolhouse, which can hold up to 70 people, so it has a lot of potential. Dorota is a very talented chef and has an exciting new menu. I’m sure Crazy Appetite will be a hit with city residents and visitors, and I’d like to wish her every success.”
