Plans have been put forward for a new leisure centre at a coastal caravan park, comprising a swimming pool and gym. If approved, it would be the latest addition to the Willows Caravan Park in Maltby le Marsh, near Mablethorpe.
It would be built on an existing part of the site’s golf course, next to the hardstanding currently used to showcase static homes and caravans for sale. In a statement submitted to East Lindsey District Council, a spokesperson for applicant Don Amott said the main pool would be 1.2m deep and measure 12 by six metres.
A nearby children’s pool would be four by four metres and half a metre deep. From the reception area, there would be a large window for supervising the pool.
The developers are weighing up whether the pool will be heated using an air source or ground source but say that energy efficiency and sustainability are at the ‘forefront of the building design’. As the intended site falls into flood zone 3, the team at Don Amott will need to introduce several measures to mitigate any risks.
They include building the centre above predicted flood levels, registering managers with the Environment Agency’s flood warning direct system, and training staff on evacuation procedures and escape routes. A decision will be made in due course by the council’s planning department.
