Investigation launched after helicopter crashes into lamppost and catches fire outside Lincolnshire motel

An investigation has been launched after a helicopter crashed into a lamppost and caught fire outside a Lincolnshire roadside hotel. Emergency services were called to the Anglia Motel, off the A17 in Fleet Hargate, on Sunday, November 5.

The pilot and passenger managed to release themselves and escaped unhurt. The blaze was extinguished by the pilot before the fire service arrived. Local resident, Stuart Harris, lives a short walk away from the motel and says emergency services arrived at the scene around 15 to 20 minutes after the incident.

The Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) is aware of the incident and has launched an investigation. A spokesperson for Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue said: “This was a private helicopter that crashed on Washway Road, Fleet.

“There was fire damage to the engine of the helicopter and crash damage to a lamp post. The pilot extinguished the fire with extinguishers prior to the arrival of fire and rescue. There were no casualties, two people had released themselves and were checked over by EMAS.”

A spokesperson for the AAIB said: “The Air Accidents Investigation Branch is aware of an accident which occurred at the Anglia Motel near Spalding on Sunday, November 5. An investigation has been launched.”
