Hundreds line Lincoln High Street to watch RAF parade for D-Day anniversary

Around 150 RAF personnel marched through Lincoln High Street to the city’s War Memorial on Thursday, June 6. The parade was to commemorate the 80th anniversary of D-Day and the 65th anniversary of granting Freedom of the City to RAF Waddington.

Hundreds lined the High Street to catch a glimpse of the impressive parade as the RAF personnel marched by to the sound of the bagpipes. They were greeted by Lincoln’s Town Crier at the War Memorial who delivered a dedicated commemoration cry to the RAF station.

This was followed by a salute from the Lincolnshire Lord Lieutenant Toby Dennis. The crowd was also treated to a flypast from two Typhoon jets. The day’s events will culminate in the evening with the International Tribute, alongside the lighting of the beacon, commemorating D-Day and giving thanks for 80 years of peace and freedom.
