Forensics search house as man found dead and murder investigation launched in Lincoln

There remains a strong police presence at the scene of a murder investigation in Lincoln three days after a man was found dead. Officers were called to a property on Portland Street on Tuesday, June 18, where they found the body of 69-year-old John Connelly.

A police cordon remains in place as well as an investigation tent, and will remain in place while police conduct inquiries. Lincolnshire Police launched a murder investigation on Friday, June 21, and a number of officers continue to patrol the nearby streets.

A crime scene investigator wearing a white hazmat suit could be seen coming in and out of the property on Portland Street on Friday morning. No arrests have been made and police are now appealing for any witnesses who may be able to help with the investigation.

The sun was shining on Portland Street on Friday morning but the atmosphere was gloomy as passers-by stopped to see what was going on. One woman who lives on a neighbouring street, and wished to remain anonymous, said: “There has been a lot of police in the area the past few days.

“I saw it all on Wednesday morning but don’t know much about it, just that they found a body. It’s not nice to see but it’s the way things are now in Lincoln.”

A spokesperson for Lincolnshire Police said: “We are appealing for witnesses and any other information that can help progress our investigation. People can call 101 quoting incident 160 of 18 June or report anonymously via CrimeStoppers on 0800 555 111.”
