Officers have arrested a 63-year-old man on suspicion of murder for a crime committed in the 1980s. On Friday, June 10, 1983, Olive Wilkinson was found dead inside her family home on Montague Street, Cleethorpes.
Following the 36-year-old’s death, a murder investigation was launched, but the case was never solved. In 2023 detectives received fresh information and a cold case review of the investigation commenced.
Following this new lines of enquiry were explored, leading to the arrest of a man on Tuesday, May 21. He was arrested on suspicion of murder and is currently in the custody of Humberside Police.
Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Chief Inspector Amy Keane-Christie, who is leading the investigation said: “The information received has led to an arrest of a man who is a new suspect to the investigation, which originally launched in 1983, into Olive’s murder.
“Olive’s family have been informed and are currently being supported by family liaison officers. A team of specialist-trained detectives are currently dedicated to reviewing and progressing the investigation.”
She continued: “As a part of our lines of enquiry a number of scene guards are currently in place at a number of locations in Cleethorpes whilst searches take place. I would encourage anyone who has any concerns or any information which may assist our investigation to please speak to one of the officers.
“Alternatively, you can report information anonymously via the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or call our non-emergency number 101 quoting investigation reference log 69 of 21 May.”
