A Lincolnshire venue has apologised after visitors left a firework event disappointed due to lengthy queues and what some claimed to be a lack of organisation. The annual Autumn Lights event at the Lincolnshire Showground consisted of two firework displays, fire performers, a range of rides and a DJ.
Despite the fireworks themselves receiving a positive response, the long queues getting in and out of the car park spoilt the event for some. Visitors also complained about lengthy queues for rides and food and drink stalls, with some saying they waiting over an hour for a pint of beer.
One Facebook user wrote: “Took us an hour to get in from Ermine East. It was a night of queuing to get in, then queuing for food, then queuing to get out for underwhelming fireworks, we [definitely] won’t be going again.”
Another user said: “We have been the last couple of years and I feel that this year was over sold. We missed the entertainment as we were stuck on the A15, the queue was nuts. The queues for rides and food were immense. It was great the last couple of years. Whilst the fireworks are always amazing, I don’t think we’ll go again.”
Another user described the car park as a “free for all” and said it took them over an hour to leave. The Lincolnshire Showground has apologised for the delays, blaming them on an “influx of attendees” due to smaller events being cancelled as well as busy weekend traffic. The venue says it will work to “prevent similar issues in the future”.
A spokesperson for the Lincolnshire Showground said: “Lincolnshire Showground were delighted to welcome back the Autumn Lights this year, which is organised by a third-party company – Events by Cynosure. Overall, we have received some very positive feedback with how impressive the fireworks were at the event.
“Events by Cynosure are a well-established and professional UK event company, who host a range of events around the UK. Events by Cynosure had exclusively hired the Showground for their annual firework event, which has become increasingly popular over the year. As part of their hire, the 3rd party company manage the event in its entirety, including the traffic management.
“Despite this being a third-party event, Lincolnshire Showground would like to apologise for the delays in leaving our site. After speaking to the organisers, it was believed that due to 9,000 visitors wishing to leave all at once, unlike previous years where it had been a more staggered departure, this resulted in some delays in exiting.
“The event had becoming increasingly popular this year, especially with smaller events being cancelled due to bad weather, this caused an influx of attendees increasing the overall attendance. To add to this the surrounding roads around the site were busy with weekend traffic. We hope this experience will not deter people from attending events in the future.
“Please be reassured that the event will be reviewed with the external organiser of the event and their third-party traffic management company to prevent similar issues in the future.”
